About infix
Founded in 2019, Infix Support Ltd is a Scottish health-tech start-up on a mission to modernise how hospitals manage surgical procedures. The company was created to address long-standing inefficiencies in patient waiting lists, operating theatre utilisation, and support staff coordination within the NHS. Led by founder and clinician Dr Matthew Freer, a consultant anaesthetist, Infix is built on the belief that intelligent technology can streamline surgical workflows, reduce patient wait times, and ultimately improve clinical outcomes.
Opportunity
Managing patient waiting lists and operating theatre capacity remains one of the most complex challenges for NHS hospitals. Largely manual, fragmented systems led to underutilised theatres, overstretched staff, and extended wait times for patients. These challenges were further intensified by the COVID-19 pandemic. When elective surgeries resumed, improving efficiency and clearing backlogs became a top priority. Infix initially engaged a third-party provider to develop a cloud-based solution to address these issues. However, the sensitive nature of patient data, combined with the need for enterprise-grade scalability, reliability, and patient data security, demanded a partner with deep domain expertise.
Mitra AI was selected as the technology partner to
re-engineer the platform and make it production-ready for the NHS
Solution
With extensive experience building healthcare products and ISO 27001 accreditation, Mitra AI brought an in-depth understanding of the stringent security, compliance, and operational requirements of healthcare systems. Mitra redesigned the original application architecture and delivered a secure, cloud-based patient management platform.
Key capabilities included:
Enterprise-Grade Healthcare Security and ISO 27001Compliance to securely manage sensitive patient data
Flexible Middleware platform integration via a future-ready roadmap to connect seamlessly with existing hospital systems including TrakCare, ensuring minimal disruption to existing workflows.
High availability and scalability for enterprise use
Improved accessibility, maintainability, and long-term reliability
In addition to product development, Mitra AI supported Infix’s go-to-market strategy, culminating in a full-scale trial deployment within an NHS Trust hospital. This required strict adherence to NHS security, governance, and quality controls for hosting and integrating patient medical data.
