The multinational health technology company, Philips, has just announced its acquisition of PathXL, the Belfast-based leader in digital pathology software. PathXL has approximately 30 employees, with offices in the UK and USA as well as distributors across three continents.

Phillips buys Mitra’s pathology partner, PathXL for disruptive technologies.

Over the last decade Philips has transitioned from an electronics company to a retailer of medical devices and systems, used by hospitals and consumers, and according to Philips, ‘PathXL’s image analysis and tissue pathology software will complete its existing products’.

PathXL’s ability to capture the attention of such a global brand demonstrates how hard working and committed the business has been in creating a name for itself.

The buy-out is expected to create about 30 new jobs in software development and IT at the Belfast offices, within 24 months. Joining Philips is also an opportunity for the PathXL team to become greater, and to provide even more innovative solutions to patients and healthcare providers.

Mitra is particularly pleased about the acquisition of PathXL as they have been a respected client of ours for the last three months during which we have helped them build PathXL Tutor (a powerful virtual slide educational management system for creating and viewing course materials and managing students, trainees or residents), and also helped them integrate to Athena, the digital pathology workflow manager developed by Noemalife.

The team at Mitra congratulates PathXL on the recognition of its achievements.
