This year Mitra Innovation participated in Trail Walk 2016 , represented by our Co-founder/Managing Director Dammika Ganegama, who walked alongside celebrity trail ambassador Mahela Jayawardena, former Sri Lankan Cricketer and captain of the Sri Lankan Cricket Team.
About Trail Walk
Trail is a charity walk that was introduced in conjunction with the Colours of Courage Trust in an effort to bring together communities across Sri Lanka and collectively drive the nation’s fight against cancer. It carries a message of unity and understanding while raising funds in aid of cancer treatment. The walk takes place over 28 days and spans 670 km along the length of the country beginning from Northern Point Pedro to Southern Dondra Head. Trail 2016 has a target of $5,000,000 to be used in the building of a cancer treatment facility as part of an extension of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital in Galle.
Mitra and Trail Walk
Dammika joined Mahela in the walk on the 16th of October – day 11 of the Trail Walk –alongside SLACC chairman Kalum de Silva and Harsha Purasinghe, founder of Microimage. The walk began at Anuradapura and came to an end at Thabuthegama town, covering about 26 kilometres.
Dammika commented: “It’s great to be part of the cause, and we encourage others to be a part of it”. At present, Mahela has raised 23.09% of his $100,000 goal.
As the walk continues, we at Mitra encourage everyone to get involved in the fight against cancer, whether by taking part in awareness activities, learning more about cancer through education programs, changing our attitudes to reduce stigma associated with cancers or cancer treatments and even contributing funds to help with the treatment of cancer patients.
